The four Musketeers of French Tennis
Four Musketeers: The Golden Era of French Tennis
The four Musketeers of French tennis—René Lacoste, Jean Borotra, Jacques Brugnon, and Henri Cochet—were the stars of the golden era of French tennis.
In the 1920s and 1930s, they broke the dominance of American players and ruled the major tournaments in both singles and doubles.
The French team ended the United States' seven-year dominance by winning the Davis Cup final in 1927 in Philadelphia. The group defended the title five more times (more details at canaltenis.com). This name is also associated with the Roland Garros title.
But in the TRH (Tennis Race for History), we have evaluated the complete careers of French tennis players from the ATP Era, from 1990 to today.
As of now, the Tennis Race for History results are as follows: 1st Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 2nd Richard Gasquet, 3rd Gael Monfils, and 4th Gilles Simon. The top three are very close, and Gasquet and Monfils could still change the rankings if they continue their careers a bit longer.
Here are the details.
